A typical garden space with lawn
and diagonal path to the front door. This is an exclusive property in a lakeside
location.
The brief asked for something bold & contemporary.
The design to incorporate natural materials, stainless steel elements, a
water feature and a bold planting scheme. Elements were drawn from travels
abroad.
Cool & Contemporary
Before
After
A wide garden that
gave the illusion of having little depth. It had an odd shaped area to
the right which caught the afternoon sun.
A restrained use of materials was
desired. Very light paving and dark timberwork to contrast. The whole garden
was to be geometric and so was based upon a grid of squares. Planting to
be bold architectural but also soft and romantic. The pergola reduces in
height and width to give the illusion of increased depth.
A long thin garden
Before
After
This garden was an awkward shape being long and very thin. The area by the patio doors was mostly in shade. The existing plants were straggly and in the
wrong place.
A space divided into three separate areas, with
a decking walkway linking all three. An angled pergola gives vertical interest
and serves to distract the eye from the neighbours leylandii hedge. Planting
screens off areas giving a sense of mystery and surprise.
